November is Diabetes Awareness Month

As a top trend driver, diabetes accounts for 15% of overall drug spend – and impacts 34 million Americans, just over 1 in 10. “WellDyne is focused on diabetes during Diabetes Awareness Month and every month,” says Nick Page, Chief Clinical and Strategy Officer. “Our WellManaged Diabetes Program includes patient education and engagement, achieving impressive results as we help patients navigate the complexities of this disease.” Nick points out that we engage patients every step of the way whether it’s diabetes prevention, early diagnosis or appropriate treatment. Our approach is a win-win for members and the plan.

In our current campaign to raise diabetes awareness and provide education, we include insights into the prevalence of the disease and the power of early intervention. “Clients with our WellManaged Diabetes Program see a lower trend in total cost per diabetic patient than clients without the program,” Nick explains. “More than half of prediabetic patients will develop diabetes within 5 years if they make no lifestyle changes and that’s why our wellness component is so important.”

Wellness is an integral part of our comprehensive WellManaged Diabetes Program that manages the complex care of diabetic patients. Wellness features a one-year set of courses for members interested in losing weight, preventing type 2 diabetes and improving their health. For clients who have implemented this component, we have seen their participants spend an average of 175 minutes per week being active, resulting in improved A1C levels and an average weight loss of 10.4% of initial body weight.

“During the course, I lost a whopping 12 pounds,” a participant enthusiastically reported. “What I truly enjoyed about the program was the comfort and support of my peers who were also participating. Today I continue to make healthy choices and small lifestyle changes as I learned to do in the course.”

To assist members with the cost of medications and promote adherence, our copay assistance component offers savings with prescription copay cards that help diabetic patients lower their out-of-pocket costs for maintenance medications. We recognize that living with diabetes is a challenge. That’s why the comprehensive WellManaged Diabetes Program addresses all the avenues that contribute to a healthy experience to engage members every step of the way.
